How to edit vehicle details
📝 Beta article — this article is part of our new help center. If a step doesn’t match what you see in Movcar, let us know — we’re refining the content daily.
Vehicle details change constantly — a new license plate after re-registration, an updated mileage after a long route, a switch from Active to Sold. Editing flows through to every report and view immediately.
Step 1 — Find the vehicle
Open My Fleet → Vehicles. Use the search box (by license plate, VIN, or model) or scroll. Filters at the top of the list let you narrow by status, fuel type, or unit.
Step 2 — Click the pencil icon
At the right end of the row: 👁 view · ✏️ edit · 🗑 delete. Click ✏️ to open the edit form. It’s the same form as Add, pre-filled with everything currently stored against the vehicle.
Step 3 — Common edits
| Field | When you’d edit it |
|---|---|
| License plate | Re-registration, plate transfer between vehicles. |
| VIN | Correcting a typo from the initial entry. |
| Initial vehicle mileage | Fixing a starting-mileage error (rarely changes once set). |
| Status | Moving the vehicle through Active → In service → Sold / Archived. |
| Model details | Adding or correcting the trim (e.g. Long Range AWD). |
| Engine details | New CO₂ data after re-homologation, fuel type correction. |
| Owner & leasing details | Leasing company changed, new acquisition date, color correction. |
| First registration date | Enables technical-inspection reminders — see Tracking periodic technical inspections. |
Step 4 — Save
Top-right, click Save. The Vehicles list updates immediately, reports recalculate, and any reminders tied to date fields (inspection, leasing, document expiry) reset to the new dates.
💡 Tip — Bulk edits — for the same change across many vehicles (e.g. a unit reassignment), use Bulk edit from the Vehicles list toolbar instead of editing one at a time. See Editing multiple vehicles at once.
⚠ Spaces in the license plate get stripped — same rule as on Add. “CT TEST 01” becomes “CTTEST01” on save.
