A tour of the driver app

📝 Beta article — this article is part of our new help center. If a step doesn’t match what you see in Movcar, let us know — we’re refining the content daily.

The Movcar driver app is built around five main tabs at the bottom of the screen. Each tab handles one part of your day. Here’s a tour of all of them.

The bottom tab bar

A Profile / Menu icon in the top corner opens settings, language, vehicle info, logout.

Home

The first screen after login. From top to bottom:

  • Current vehicle card — license plate, model, your assigned vehicle. Tap to see details.
  • Today’s mileage — kilometres driven today, based on logged routes or odometer entries.
  • Quick actions — large buttons for the most common tasks: Log refuelling, Start trip, Report problem.
  • Recent activity — your last few refuellings, trips, or handovers.
  • Reminders — anything the fleet manager flagged for your attention (overdue inspection, expired licence, push messages).

Refuelling

The Refuelling tab is for logging every time you fill up. See Logging a refuelling from the app for the full walkthrough. Quick version:

  1. Tap + New refuelling.
  2. Enter litres, total cost, fuel type, current odometer.
  3. Optionally attach a photo of the receipt.
  4. Tap Save.

The refuelling is synced to the admin within seconds.

Routes

Routes log trip-level data — origin, destination, distance, duration. Your fleet may or may not require this; ask your fleet manager.

To start a trip:

  1. Tap Start trip.
  2. The app starts recording your location.
  3. When you arrive, tap End trip.
  4. Optionally add purpose, notes.

The trip syncs to the admin and counts toward your daily mileage.

📍 Always-allow location for routes — if location permission is set to “Allow only while using app”, the trip will stop recording when you switch apps or lock the phone. Set to Always allow for accurate route data.

Handover

The Handover tab covers two things:

  • Full handover — handing the vehicle over to another driver, with their signature.
  • Drop-off / Pick-up — leaving the vehicle at a depot, or picking one up, without a second party.

See Completing a handover from the app for the full walkthrough.

The output is a signed PDF protocol that ends up in the admin Vehicle Handovers section instantly.

Messages

Three kinds of message you can send from this tab:

  • Technical breakdown — vehicle malfunction.
  • Vehicle check — completed inspection result.
  • General message — anything else.
  • Vehicle cleanliness — cleanliness complaint.

Each message lets you attach photos and add notes. The fleet manager sees it within seconds in the admin Messages section.

For claims (accidents, incidents involving damage or third parties), there’s a separate, more detailed flow — see Reporting a claim from the app.

Profile / Menu

Open the profile menu (top corner) for:

  • Your details — name, licence number, email. Update via the fleet office, not the app.
  • Vehicle pairing — which vehicle you’re paired to. Option to Unpair if you’re switching vehicles.
  • Language — switch interface language.
  • Notifications — toggle push notifications.
  • About / Privacy — app version, privacy policy.
  • Log out / Unpair — disconnect from the fleet.

Working offline

Most app functions work offline:

  • ✅ Log refuellings.
  • ✅ Record handovers and drop-offs.
  • ✅ Take photos.
  • ✅ Start and end trips (location data stored locally).
  • ❌ Receive new push messages from the fleet (needs signal).
  • ❌ See the fleet manager’s recent edits.

When you regain signal, the app syncs everything automatically. There’s an offline indicator in the top bar so you know when sync is pending.
