How to delete a driver
⚠ Read this first — deleting a driver is permanent and breaks the link between past records (refuellings, claims, mileage, routes) and the driver who made them. For normal departures (driver leaves the company), use archive instead — see How to archive a driver. Delete is for: test records you no longer want, mis-typed duplicates, or genuine GDPR data-removal requests where you must purge the person from your system.
Step 1 — Open Drivers
My Fleet → Drivers. Find the driver to delete via search or scrolling.
Step 2 — Click the trash icon
At the right end of the row, click 🗑. Movcar shows a confirmation modal.
Step 3 — Confirm
Click Delete. The driver is removed from the database and a green confirmation toast appears.
What gets deleted
| Affected | Notes |
|---|---|
| The driver record itself | Gone — no recovery without a database restore. |
| Past refuellings | Stay, but the Driver column shows the name as removed or empty. |
| Past mileage entries | Same. |
| Past claims | Same. |
| Past routes | Same — the Driver attribution is severed. |
| App Connection Code | If the driver was linked to one, the link is removed. The code itself stays (linked to vehicles only). |
| Documents stored against the driver | Also deleted. Make sure you’ve kept any compliance copies elsewhere. |
Why archive is usually better
Archiving (Status = Inactive + Employment End set) achieves the practical goal — the driver disappears from the active list — without breaking the historical link. Year-end reports still attribute past activity to the right person.
Use delete only when you have a specific reason the record shouldn’t exist at all.
