How to upgrade your plan
Upgrading moves your fleet to a higher Movcar plan — unlocking features like fuel cards, service plans, the driver mobile app, or claims management, depending on which tier you choose. The whole thing takes about two minutes and you’ll see the new features immediately after Stripe confirms the charge.
Where to find the upgrade page
Click your avatar in the top-right corner of the admin to open the profile dropdown, then click Billing & Payment.
The page is titled Plan & Billing. (Yes — the menu item says one thing and the page another. They’re the same place.) At the top you’ll see your current plan, payment cadence, vehicle count, and activation date.
Step 1 — Choose Monthly or Yearly billing (optional)
Just below the current-plan summary is a Payments toggle: Monthly or Yearly. Yearly billing is typically cheaper per vehicle. Pick the cadence you want before you click Select on a plan — the price shown on each plan card reflects whichever cadence is active.
Step 2 — Adjust the vehicle count (optional)
Underneath the Payments toggle is Increase or decrease number of vehicles in subscription with a − / count / + stepper. Set this to the number of vehicles you actually need. The total monthly cost shown on each plan card updates from this number.
💡 Tip — Changing the vehicle count alone doesn’t change your plan tier. If you only need more vehicles on the same plan, see How to add more vehicles to your subscription.
Step 3 — Pick a plan
Scroll down to Select preferred plan. You’ll see five cards side by side, with your current plan marked by a green Active badge:
| Plan | Price (monthly billing) | Min. vehicles | Headline use case |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | up to 3 only | Personal use — basic vehicle list and reminders |
| Starter | €0.50 / vehicle / month | No minimum | Digital documents and expiration reminders |
| Starter Plus | €1.00 / vehicle / month | 2 | Basic fleet administration — mileage, finances, team members |
| Premium ⭐ | €1.50 / vehicle / month | 3 | Advanced operations — fuel cards, tire management, drivers, service visits |
| Corporate | €2.00 / vehicle / month | 3 | Driver mobile app, claims, tachographs, multi-fleet, P&L reports |
Each card lists the new features it adds on top of the previous tier (“Everything from Premium, and:”). Hover the ⓘ icon next to a feature to see a short description.
Step 4 — Click Select
On the plan you want, click the Select button at the bottom of the card. Movcar submits the change to Stripe, which handles the payment.
⚠ Stripe Checkout may open — if you’re upgrading from Free to a paid tier, or adding a payment method for the first time, you’ll be taken to Stripe’s hosted checkout to enter card details. If you already have a payment method on file (most upgrades from one paid tier to another), Stripe charges it and you stay inside Movcar.
Once Stripe confirms the charge, the new plan is active immediately. The Active badge moves to the plan you just chose, the new features become available across the admin, and the next invoice in your Invoices table reflects the change.
What about Payment Portal?
Below the plan cards there’s a purple Payment Portal button (“Payment methods, billing details and more”) that opens Stripe’s hosted billing portal in a new tab. From there you can:
- Update or replace your saved card.
- Download past invoices as PDFs.
- See and manage upcoming charges.
📌 Stripe Portal vs. Movcar — the Stripe Portal is the source of truth for payment methods and invoice history. For changing your plan tier or vehicle count, stay on the Movcar Plan & Billing page — that’s where the plan-change logic lives.
What’s next?
Now that your plan is upgraded, the natural next steps are:
- Add more vehicles to your subscription if you need to expand the fleet.
- Connect drivers to the Movcar mobile app (available from Corporate plan).
- View and download invoices from the Invoices table at the bottom of the Plan & Billing page.
If you upgraded by mistake or want to step back to a lower tier, see How to downgrade your plan. To cancel entirely, click the red Cancel plan button on the current-plan card.
