How to update your payment method

📝 Beta article — this article is part of our new help center. If a step doesn’t match what you see in Movcar, let us know — we’re refining the content daily.

Payment methods live in Stripe, not Movcar — Stripe is what actually charges your card. To add, replace, or remove a card, you open the Payment Portal (Stripe’s hosted page) from inside Movcar.

Step 1 — Open Plan & Billing

Click your avatar → Billing & Payment.

Step 2 — Click “Payment Portal”

Below the plan cards, click the purple Payment Portal button (“Payment methods, billing details and more”). It opens Stripe’s hosted billing portal in a new tab.

🔒 Stripe portal is on billing.stripe.com — that’s expected. Your card details never touch Movcar’s servers; Stripe handles them directly.

Step 3 — Manage payment methods

In the Stripe portal:

  • Add a cardPayment methods → + Add payment method. Enter the card details.
  • Set the default — every card row has a Default toggle. Whichever is marked default is the one Stripe charges on each renewal.
  • Remove an old card — click the menu on the row → Delete. You can’t remove the only card on file if you have an active subscription; add a new one first.

Step 4 — Confirm in Movcar (optional)

Back in Movcar, you don’t need to do anything — Stripe immediately knows about the change. On the next renewal date, Stripe charges the new default card.

If you want to verify, try Avatar → Billing & Payment and look at the Last 4 digits shown on the current-plan card (if your workspace surfaces this).

When to update the card

ScenarioWhat to do
Card is about to expireAdd the replacement card before the expiry. Stripe usually emails you 30 days ahead.
Card was lost or stolenAdd the replacement, set as default, delete the old one.
Switching to a different card / businessAdd the new card, set as default. Optional to delete the old one.
Auto-renewal failed onceStripe retries automatically. Update the card as soon as you get the failure email so retries have something new to charge.

What you’ll see on the next invoice

The next invoice will list the new card’s last 4 digits and the new charge. Past invoices keep the original card’s details (a Stripe record, not a Movcar one).
