Renewal date, auto-renew, and cancelling

📝 Beta article — this article is part of our new help center. If a step doesn’t match what you see in Movcar, let us know — we’re refining the content daily.

Movcar subscriptions auto-renew until you cancel. This guide explains how renewal works, where the dates live, and what to expect if you decide to leave.

Where to see your renewal date

Avatar → Billing & Payment. The current-plan card at the top of Plan & Billing shows:

  • Activation date — when this plan tier became active.
  • Renews on — the next charge date.
  • Payment cadence — Monthly or Yearly.

The renewal date is when Stripe attempts the next charge against your saved card.

How auto-renewal works

On your renewal date:

  1. Stripe attempts the charge for the next period (same plan, same vehicle count).
  2. Success → the new invoice appears in the Invoices table as Paid, the plan continues seamlessly.
  3. Failure (expired card, insufficient funds, etc.) → invoice shows Open or Failed, Stripe and Movcar both email you. The fix is to update your payment method — see How to update your payment method.

If a failed charge stays unpaid, contact support and we’ll help you sort it out. Your data isn’t deleted while things are being resolved.

Yearly vs. Monthly

The renewal cadence is set on the Payments toggle on the Plan & Billing page:

  • Monthly — charged every month on the same calendar day as activation. Easy to cancel without losing much.
  • Yearly — charged once per year. Typically cheaper per vehicle (depending on plan). If you cancel mid-year, no refund by default — see “Cancelling” below.

To switch between Monthly and Yearly, change the toggle, then click Select on your current plan. Stripe prorates the difference.

How to cancel

Step 1 — Open Plan & Billing

Avatar → Billing & Payment.

Step 2 — Click “Cancel plan”

On the current-plan card at the top of the page, click the red Cancel plan button. Movcar shows a confirmation modal with:

  • The date your plan will remain active until (the end of the current paid period).
  • What happens to your data after that.

Step 3 — Confirm

Click Confirm cancellation. Stripe records the cancellation. Your plan remains active until the end of the current paid period — you keep full access until then.

💡 Tip — You don’t lose access immediately — if you’ve paid through March 31, you keep paid features until then, even if you cancel on March 1.

What happens after cancellation

  • From cancellation to end of paid period: full access. Auto-renew is off.
  • End of paid period: the subscription ends. Your account moves to a lower state — the exact behaviour depends on your fleet size and the tier you were on. If you want to know precisely what happens for your account, contact support before cancelling.

📌 No automatic deletion — Movcar does not auto-delete your data on cancellation. If you want everything purged (GDPR data-removal request), contact support.

Re-subscribing after cancellation

Just go back to Plan & Billing, pick a plan, click Select. Stripe charges you and your full dataset reactivates immediately. No re-onboarding needed.
